Representing Idaho on a National Stage

Indianapolis has long been considered the heart of the drum corps activity, and the DCI meetings provided a chance for our team to engage in conversations shaping the future of the activity. From operational best practices to educational standards and member experience, the weekend offered a valuable behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to support programs at the national level.

While drum corps is often experienced on the field during the summer, every performance is built on months of planning, collaboration, and structure. This trip helped us bring back ideas that will directly strengthen how we serve our members and our community.

Collaboration, Networking, and Big-Picture Planning

A key takeaway from Indianapolis was the power of relationships across the activity. We had the opportunity to meet and learn from leaders across the country—connections that can lead to shared opportunities, stronger support networks, and better outcomes for performers everywhere.

For Gems, it was a reminder that Boise belongs in these spaces. We are building something meaningful in Idaho, and we left Indy with renewed confidence, momentum, and clarity for the road ahead.

A Major Step Forward for the Future of Gems

The Indianapolis trip reinforced what we already believe: Gems is growing into something special.

We returned with sharper focus and an even clearer vision for what comes next—how we recruit, how we plan, how we strengthen internal systems, and how we keep member experience at the center of every decision. Every session and conversation added value that will help us continue building a stronger program.
